Good Food and Wine Show Johannesburg Ticket Giveaway

July 21, 2014

From the 31st July – 3rd August 2014 Johannesburg, the city of gold, will be transformed into a city of food and culinary excitement, trends and interaction when the Good Food and Wine Show opens at the Coca Cola Dome in North Riding. If food is your thing then this premier interactive consumer food, wine and lifestyle event is sure to tick all the appropriate boxes and inspire you….from celebrity chefs showcasing their culinary skills, to trade exhibitions, to streetwise and artisanal food, the Cape Wine route (yes, yes, only in Gauteng for a few days, we Capies cannot survive too long without our wine route!) and a baking theatre for kids! I love being in the kitchen with my little grandsons, I think it is so important for them to know that food has a story and doesn’t just come off shelves or out of fridges at a shop!  Kids will step into The Selati Sweet Treats Theatre through a giant cupcake and will be given instruction on how to bake … but watch out mums and dads because the kids are bound to be inspired and will want to take over your kitchen at home. A show highlight – the kiddies will be in their element as serious fun will be dished out in big dollops at the Good Food and Wine Show in Johannesburg.  Take them along to the fab baking theatre where they can learn more about cooking and enjoying food!

Also for the kiddies/families – The official Willy Wonka character will be walking around the show and interacting with kiddies all day; the Candylicious stand will be making marshmallow fun; there will be cupcake decorating on the Snowflake stand; and there is a special Slush Zone on the Clover Tropika stand with demos from ten-year-old Gemma. And of course don’t forget that every kids favourite – Cake Boss BuddyValastro – will also be at the show!

And for the grown-ups…..a glittering line up of international and local celebrity chefs, fabulous boutique wines, a beer route, extreme nutrition and more! Take a sneak peek at just some of what’s in store for you…..

Matt Preston – flambouyant cravat-wearing, award-winning food journalist, restaurant critic and television personality (not to mention style icon), best known in South Africa for his appearance as one of the judges in all six series of MasterChef Australia. Matt will be entertaining visitors with offerings from his 2013 best seller Matt Preston’s Fast, Fresh And Unbelievably Delicious

Sweet Mandarin Twin Sisters Lisa and Helen Tse – granddaughters of Lily Kwok, (accredited with introducing Chinese food to the UK) authors of the recently launched Sweet Mandarin and also owners of Sweet Mandarin, an award winning restaurant in Manchester UK. These busy lasses have recently launched the gluten and MSG free range of Sweet Mandarin Sauces and have been recognised in the Queen’s Honours list with an MBE each.

Valastro, Buddy-Hi Res

Buddy Valastro – good natured American celebrity chef, entrepreneur, and reality star of Cake & Kitchen Boss fame, he of towering cake fame, Buddy started out at the age of 11 working alongside his father at the family business, Carlos Cakes, and it was during that time that his dad passed on his wealth of baking knowledge and his drive for success to his son. This is Buddy’s second appearance at the Good Food and Wine Show and his first visit to Johannesburg.

Reza Mahammad – this Colourful Spice Prince of the Indian culinary world and star of many fascinating food shows, was born in England to Indian parents and sent off to India at a young age to be educated because his parents wanted him to stay in touch with their roots. Says the man: “This provided a good British education, which left me speaking English with a public school accent and Hindi with an English accent. A hybrid torn between two worlds. My father passed away when I was just 16 and I took over the running of our family business, The Star of India Restaurant. The years spent managing The Star of India established the restaurant as an institution and enabled me to explode onto the restaurant and food scene. I love to experiment with foods from all around the world, adding elements and ingredients that bring a new dimension to a traditional dish. I am a firm believer in bringing a personal touch to my dishes.”  Aside from cooking Reza has great interest in the arts and a passion for music. According to this Spice Prince and celebrity chef food and music are linked…. “A symphony of taste which feeds the senses is like beautiful music which nourishes the soul.” I am not sure there are many who would disagree with him!

Siba Mtongana – dynamic food enthusiast and past editor of Drum Magazine, Siba brings an endearing style and charisma to her show – Food Network’s Siba’s Table. Born in the Eastern Cape Siba migrated towards the bright city lights of Cape Town where she studied and  has won three prestigious Galliova Awards for recipe development, food styling and food journalism. She conducts food workshops and demonstrations, she is skilled in public speaking and MC’s various food events and gives food and nutrition talks throughout Africa. She is a motivational speaker and uses her celebrity status to help inspire the youth by advocating education and hard work as the key to success.   A woman of faith Siba believes in giving back.  Among other things she is a patron of Foodbank South Africa, an organisation that fights hunger and malnutrition through food rescuing.
